American Academy of Ophthalmology Honors Dr. Charles Kelman Posthumously at the Opening Session of the Joint meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the European Society of Ophthalmology

A special tribute to Dr. Charles Kelman will be made at the opening of the 2004 Annual Business Meeting being held, October 24, in the Auditorium at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisianna.

The first Joint Meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the European Society of Ophthalmology (SOE) will take place from Oct. 23 to 26, 2004 in New Orleans. The Opening Session will be held in the Auditorium of the Morial Convention Center on October 24,2004 from 8:30am to 10:00am.

At approximately 9:15 am, there will be an Introduction of the Academy President and Alston Callahan*, M.D. Mrs. Ann Kelman will come to the stage to receive a plaque honoring her husband, Dr. Charles Kelman. Members of the Kelman family will be present.

* Note: Dr. Callahan nominated Dr. Kelman for the 2004 Albert Lasker Award for Clinical Medicine. The Lasker Foundation bestowed this award upon Dr. Kelman posthumously at their Awards Ceremony at the Pierre Hotel, in New York City, on October 1,2004.This is the first time that the Lasker was awarded posthumously.
